What are Botox injections?

Botox injections are cosmetic treatments that have protein from Clostridium botulinum bacteria in a purified form. This bacteria decreases activity in your muscles. Dr. Fatakhov injects Botox in specific areas to help reduce fine lines and wrinkles on a temporary basis.

How does Botox reduce fine lines and wrinkles?

The purified protein in Botox injections decreases activity in targeted facial muscles. You develop wrinkles and fine lines between your brows and at the corners of your eyes due to muscle activity. Lower levels of muscle activity help smooth these fine lines and wrinkles, resulting in a more youthful look.

Are Botox injections painful?

When you get Botox injections, you might feel a bit of pinching, but this shouldn’t cause you considerable discomfort. If you’re highly sensitive to pain or if you’re nervous about experiencing any discomfort, you can discuss your concerns with Dr. Fatakhov. If needed, he can apply a topical numbing cream to the areas of your face that are being treated.

Is Botox safe?

Botox is considered safe for most patients, although a small number might experience more severe side effects. Some of these include swollen or drooping eyelids, vision problems, or muscle weakness. Keep in mind that these are rare side effects. It’s normal to have slight soreness at the injection sites, which is temporary. You can discuss any other concerns you have with Dr. Fatakhov.

How many Botox injections will I get?

The number of injections you’ll need depends on how deep your fine lines and wrinkles are. Botox injections usually involve the following:

• Three Botox injections to reduce fine lines around the corners of your eyes
• Five Botox injections in your forehead to reduce frown lines between your eyebrows
• Four Botox injections near your eyebrows to minimize frown lines

Dr. Fatakhov will let you know the number of injections you’ll end up needing during your consultation.

How soon does Botox work?

The results of Botox injections might show up in one or two days after your treatment, but keep in mind that these results vary from patient to patient. The results typically last for four months or less, which also varies.
